Dance to De-Stress

A Natural Calm

Dance to De-Stress

Go from “freaked out” to calm using movement and “stress relief” tools.

Eliciting a natural calm state is very healing as it helps us overcome the negative effects of stress. Going from freaked out to calm using movement and “stress relief” tools can positively affect your mental and physical health.

Expressing and releasing feelings through movement changes us for the better.
Dance is a wonderful coping activity and it can be so much better when we add some fun de-stressing strategies for a variety of ways to get into a peaceful state. And, no, you do not need a partner and you don’t need to know how to dance.

Strategies can include relaxed breath while moving, progressive, targeted relaxation, mindful movement, visualization, biofeedback, meditative dance, affirming statements, etc. Borrowing steps from various genres such Latin salsa and cha cha, percussive clogging and tap, Broadway musicals, etc. with no partners needed, we let the music move us.

“Stress relief” tools positively affect our entire lives. This includes increasing concentration and building more self-control. We look at posture, too. It influences how we move and has a profound effect on how we feel as well as how others perceive us. People say they can sleep better, manage anger, and experience less anxiety. Research shows that it bolsters your immune system and helps us heal.

Participants often report immediate effects. For example, almost everyone demonstrates more flexibility just after applying a specific visualization and movement technique.

NOTE: I can make this accessible for those who may have difficulty walking or standing.
