Someone grabs your wrist or touches you inappropriately. If it’s benign, you still want to know what to say or do to get out of a situation that makes you uncomfortable. But, if it is a true threat, all bets are off. How can you extricate yourself and control a potentially dangerous situation?
Smart Moves strategies are designed to help you avoid escalating confrontation. Your priority is to stay safe! Keeping it “real,” we focus on verbal and nonverbal self-defense techniques for various true-to-life situations – anything from bullying comments to a questionable touch to the threat of being assaulted where we adapt simple martial arts maneuvers.
The bottom line: You can often avoid making a bad situation worse by using the “right” words and moves.
Anyone can benefit from ways to back off when necessary. You’ll explore what we communicate through body language including facial expressions and gestures. And you’ll learn a variety of releases from several types of holds, simple footwork to move in the safest direction, and how to take physical control when threatened.
We can also review the smart moves you can apply if someone grabs, pushes, or tries to choke you so if you are ever confronted (let’s hope not!) you’ll have some skills to handle it.
NOTE: I was certified as a self-defense coach and adapted many of the techniques for effective use in the workplace, social gatherings, etc.
